I started having contractions that woke me up at 3 am. They hurt so bad! I remember Brady asking me if I was okay in the middle of a contraction and I told him to stop asking me that! Of course I'm not okay, I'm in major pain! After consistent and long contractions, I texted my friend Kristina and she came over at 4am to stay with Sadie. We rushed to the hospital only to find that there were three other pregnant women in labor waiting at the front desk. They were short staffed and didn't have rooms to put all of us. I was freaking out inside. I could hear one lady moaning and groaning as she was experiencing a contraction and it made me so angry. I was in pain (I don't make noises or anything, I just grimace and get tense), I didn't want to hear anyone else's pain!
After a ten minute wait in the hall, they took us to triage where they checked my cervix. The nurse said I was at a 5 but later she told us I was really at a 7 but didn't want to freak me out any more than needed. I got an epidural right away and I totally cried when the guy poked me. I think the combination of the painful contractions and the needle did me in. I was so grateful when the drugs set in and I was painless. Around 6:10, they checked me again and they told me to start pushing. I only pushed for about 20 minutes and he came! It was amazingly quick compared to pushing Sadie out for 2.5 hours. The doctor kept saying how good I was doing and saying that I was making great progress, but I didn't believe her... I was ready to push for a lot longer, but I was so glad I didn't have to. Poor little Graham was pretty purple coming out and he wasn't crying so they took him away and got him breathing. I finally got to hold him and he was huge! 8 pounds 14 ounces and 20.9 inches long.
I'm so glad I get to be his mommy. He is such a sweet boy and we all love him so much. Sadie says his name, "Bam!" The other day, I got her in big trouble for doing something naughty and the first things she did to comfort herself was to give Graham a big hug and kiss. It was really sweet. Graham is almost 3 months old and he's starting to smile a ton. I love this stage where babies react to you! He also just discovered his tongue last night so he's been trying to figure that out :)
He sleeps pretty well. Usually around 6-9 hours at night. He has a ton of hair just like Sadie did and everyone comments on his locks no matter where we go. He sure is a cutie!
He was the perfect early Christmas gift!
